Ingredients
Raw rice powder – 1cup
Cow peas – 2 Tsp (kara mani)
Coconut- 2Tsp (Thinly sliced)
Oil – 4Tsp
Green chillies – 1Tsp chopped
Curry leaves – 6
Mustard -1/2 Tsp
Salt
Ghee -2 Tsp
Water -2 cup


Preparation

Wash and soak the cow peas for 5 to 6 hours. Pressure cook for two whistles.
Dry roast rice powder lightly and collect it in a bowl.(You should be able to put a Kolam /rangoli with the flour. That is the padham)Don”t roast to a golden colour.Flour should be white.
Take a pan, heat oil, add mustard, green chillies curry leaves.
Add water, allow it to boil and add cooked cow peas, coconut and salt.
Simmer the stove and slowly add the rice powder and stir continuously until it becomes big dough. Switch off the gas and cover it with a plate for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes apply ghee in your hands and knead it well.
Take a small lemon sized dough and flatten it and make a small hole in the centre, prepare all the dough like this.
Steam cook this for 4 to 5 minutes in the idly plate.
Serve with butter.
Generally rice powder for this day is prepared at home. Take a cup of raw rice. Wash and soak it for 30 minutes. Drain it and spread rice in a dry towel.
Grind this in a mixer and sieve.
If you find this difficult you can also get raw rice powder in grocery stores also.

Raw rice powder –           1cup
Jaggery                 -        3/4 cup
Cowpeas –                      2 Tsp (kara mani)
Coconut-                         2Tsp (cut into small pieces)
Cardamom powder           -1/4Tsp
Ghee                             -2 Tsp
Water                            -1 cup



Preparation
Wash and soak the cow peas for 5 to 6 hours. Pressure cook for two whistles.
Dry roast  rice powder to gold colour and collect it in a bowl.
Take pan boil water and jaggery, when it is dissolved filter this to remove the impurities in the jaggery. And again bring this to boil.
Allow it to boil for 3 minutes.  
Now add cow peas, cardamom, coconut and 1 tsp ghee.

Simmer the stove and slowly add the rice powder and stir continuously until it becomes big dough. Switch off the gas and cover it with a plate for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes apply ghee in your hands and knead it well.
